Our Story - How it began.
We purchased our land in 2015.
My husband wanted to build a man cave, a three-bay garage, to restore a Kombi, a place to hang out.
I figured hubby can have his man cave to hang out in, BUT I needed something creative, something outside the box to build. I had many dreams and inspirations but I wanted something empathetic to the environment, that was sustainable and eco-friendly.
The shipping containers home it was! AND I am proud to say the inspiration came before it appeared on Grand Designs.
I have always been a recycled lover. I get disturbed by the amount of waste we as humans produce and often find love in many old things.
Creating and designing Retro River Rest was a labour of love - but something I have thoroughly enjoyed doing. Putting time into cleaning old pieces of furniture was fun and something I enjoyed.
Thinking outside the box was exciting and thrilling.
I wanted to capture the beauty of this region. I honestly believe we live in the best part of the world. I am eternally grateful for the amazing and somewhat undiscovered, unassuming part of the world. Yes, sometimes wild and windy Warrnambool.
